About

Welcome!  I’m Katie – most of you know me as @InsightsGal on Twitter.

I’m a hybrid market research manager/social media diva/project manager based in Portland, Maine.

I work with companies large and small to help them tune in to the ”Voice of the Customer” through research and social media to create actionable insights to drive the business forward.

I’ve worked with and for a smorgasbord of different companies and industries, from software to seafood, from fragrance to finance, and more.

I’m an uber-connected and intensely curious early adopter, fascinated with how people (and brands) connect and interact digitally.  I’ve been deeply immersed in the Internet as long as I can remember (case in point: I was the only girl in computer programming “summer camp” in grade school…and this is back in the ’80′s).

Am I “addicted” to the Internet and social media? Yes, and happily so. Why? Because it’s how many of us converse, connect, and build relationships nowadays.  And I need to be out there observing in order to better advise my clients on conversing, connecting, and building relationships of their own with their customers.

I’m always immersed in numbers…and I love it! Data analysis makes me happy – and nothing is more fun that receiving a new spreadsheet of raw data.  I specialize in “finding the story” in those numbers, and translating that story into actionable insights for my customers.  Because reams of data aren’t going to help them, but great ideas and nuggets of insight culled from that data will.

On a day-to-day level, I’m a planner and a doer, making all of the above happen.  To do that I’m hyper-organized and love love love tools that keep me organized.  Yes, I’m that person who shops at Staples for fun!  You can find my favorite organizational tools on my Favorite Organizing Tools page.

I’m good at a lot of things, but I specialize in:

  • Qualitative and quantitative market research
  • Survey design
  • Social media onboarding (bringing businesses from “what’s Twitter?” to “I can DO this!”)
  • Online community management (especially adept at MROCs)
  • Webinar project management and moderation
  • Online focus group moderation
  • Project management and business analysis
  • Business process improvement
  • IT implementation management
  • Public speaking
  • Training (software training, customer care, business etiquette, social media, virtual worlds)
  • Nonprofit/volunteer leadership
Let’s connect!

You can find me on LinkedIn or at About.Me…And of course, on Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest!

Oh yeah, in my free time I’m a voracious reader, I'm a member of the Junior League, I practice Kripalu yoga, I'm a student of Ayurveda, I'm a whiz at movie trivia, and I’m a fabulous chef (or so my husband says, and he’s the chief taster so I believe him!).
